Credits & data licences
Ride Amsterdam rebuilds the city from open data, plus original flat-colour geometry drawn by the project. Nothing here is traced from a commercial map or a stock photo library. This page lists the sources and their licences; where a source asks for attribution, the credit also appears in the game.
Map and geometry data
- OpenStreetMap contributors — canals, streets, bridges, parks, public transport lines, building footprints and landmark placement coordinates. Licensed under the Open Database License (ODbL). © OpenStreetMap contributors.
- BAG (Basisregistratie Adressen en Gebouwen) and BGT (Basisregistratie Grootschalige Topografie) — building footprints, addresses, construction years, ground cover and street names, via Kadaster and PDOK. CC0 1.0 (public domain).
- 3DBAG — 3D building massing, roof shapes and heights, from TU Delft 3D geoinformation. CC BY 4.0. docs.3dbag.nl.
- AHN (Actueel Hoogtebestand Nederland) — terrain and surface heights. CC0 1.0. ahn.nl.
- Gemeente Amsterdam open data — data.amsterdam.nl: neighbourhood and district boundaries, street-name register records, the municipal tree inventory and other datasets published as open data. The buurt/gebied data is CC0; the tree inventory is published as “openbaar, tenzij anders aangegeven” (open unless stated otherwise).
- PDOK aerial imagery — orthophoto and colour-infrared reference used to study facades and roofs. CC BY 4.0.
Street panoramas and photographs (reference only)
- Gemeente Amsterdam street panoramas — via data.amsterdam.nl, CC BY 4.0. Used to measure real facades, roofs, signs and street furniture. The models are original flat-colour geometry; no panorama pixels are shipped.
- Stadsarchief Amsterdam Beeldbank — archief.amsterdam/beeldbank: historical photographs, referenced by catalogue number and used only where the item is licensed. Each item keeps its own rights statement.
- Wikimedia Commons — reference photographs for landmark, bridge and sculpture reconstructions. Each file carries its own licence (commonly CC0 / public domain, CC BY or CC BY-SA); the author and licence for each model are recorded in the model catalogue and on the in-game card for that landmark. No photograph pixels and no third-party meshes are shipped.
Text and facts
- Wikipedia — landmark and street summaries, used under CC BY-SA 4.0. Each card links to its own article (“Read the full article on Wikipedia”), and text translated from Dutch is marked as translated.
- Wikidata — identifiers and cross-references for bridges and landmarks. CC0. wikidata.org.
- RCE national monuments register — descriptions of listed buildings (rijksmonumenten). CC0.
Basemap
- The optional vector basemap uses OpenStreetMap data (ODbL) served by OpenFreeMap, styled with the OpenMapTiles schema. The same attribution is shown in the map corner during play.
Software
- three.js — MIT licence. threejs.org.
- MapLibre GL JS — BSD-3-Clause. maplibre.org.
- Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, App Check) — Google, used for optional sign-in, progress sync and feedback.
- Adapted from Smokey’s and the Bandit by Alan Wright — GPL-3.0. The original licence text ships in
LICENSE.
Fonts
- Anton, Pacifico and Archivo Black, served from
fonts/— SIL Open Font License 1.1, from the google/fonts repository. - Barlow Condensed and JetBrains Mono — SIL Open Font License 1.1, loaded via Google Fonts.
Models, icons and other assets
- Building models — the landmark, ordinary-building and block-face models you can download from the building explorer are released under CC BY 4.0: credit “Ride Amsterdam”, and keep the source credits — 3DBAG (TU Delft 3D geoinformation, CC BY 4.0), BAG (Kadaster) and OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL). The models are produced works from those sources; the source databases keep their own licences.
- Icons — the Route and Waves icons are from Lucide (ISC licence); the Bridge icon is from Font Awesome Free (CC BY 4.0).
- Bicycles — the default omafiets and the Swapfiets-style bike are authored by the project; the pink city bicycle is Kin Chen’s “Pink city bicycle”, released CC0 via MorfVision / BlenderKit.
- Boat — the canal sloep was generated by the project with Meshy AI.
- Trees and planting — crown shapes, foliage and bark colours are original approximations, not surveyed crowns. Positions, species and (where recorded) planting years come from the municipal tree inventory and OpenStreetMap.
- Transit mode currently shows a placeholder metro mesh; it is not part of the credited asset set and is not final.
